04 Independent Blues

Music and lyrics written by Sherry Smith

Story

There's a big difference between wanting a man and needing a man. The truth is I was always far too independent for my own good as I chased away many men who were good for me and instead chased the ones that were not. More about that in ''South End Boys''. There are some men that like to feel needed and therefore struggle with an independent one. I don't think I'm the only woman who has encountered this as it seems to be the song with the most hits on iTunes. It's a fun song and always gets a few laughs. '' I don't need just any man Baby, ooh Lord I want you''.

Lyrics

I don't need you baby to bring your paycheck home

I'm an independent woman, I can make it on my own

I don't need your muscles to split and chop my wood

The kids and me are doing fine,,,the world is looking good

Chorus:

Just because I said I don't need you, don't take it the wrong way

I really want you baby, but my pride won't let me say,

Experience has taught me there's a difference from the two

I don't need just any man sugar, Oh Lord I want you

I don't need you darlin to protect me from the world

I'm mean and tough already, ain't no helpless little girl

I don't need no gentleman to light my cigarette

It's a habit I'm not proud of,,,,and I'm gonna quit it yet!!

Repeat chorus

I don't need you baby to change one thing you do

You're the candle in my darkest night, the keeper of my zoo

You just drive me crazy to the deepest shade of blue

You know you turn me on,,,Oooh Lord I want you.

Repeat chorus - last line 3 times
